The Millcreek Church of the Nazarene supports the missions fields in many ways. We recently participated in the "Books for Pastors" program to raise money for Bibles for missionaries around the world who might not otherwise have the printed living word to aid them in their ministries. We also participate in the "Alabaster" program in which money is raised to help build and repair buildings for churches in need. 100% of the money collected for Alabaster goes to the cause. We also accept love offerings to help support Eastern Nazarene College (ENC), who in turn supports us by assisting with student workers for vacation bible school and other projects. Our ongoing initiative is to collect the items necessary to build crisis care kits.
Crisis Care Kits (CCKs) are a cooperative effort between Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Incorporated (NCMI) and Nazarene Missions International (NMI).
CCKs continue to meet the needs around the world. Nazarenes donated more than 53,000 Crisis Care Kits (CCKs) in 2004! The kits went to Armenia, Iran, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Republic of Georgia, the Ukraine, and the United States. In early 2005, over 16,000 CCKs were sent to the Asia tsunami area. Your generosity made an incredible difference!
Each local church is challenged to donate enough kits to fill at least one banana box (six CCKs per banana box). Small churches may combine efforts to fill banana boxes with CCKs. The CCK emphasis will be December (NMI's month of emphasis for Nazarene Compassionate Ministries); however, kits may be received year-round and people are encouraged to provide kits when disasters occur around the world so quantities will be sufficient.
Last year we tried designating a specific item to bring in each month. This resulted in the largest number of kits our church has ever sent out and was such a success that we are going to do it again this year. Here is the monthly list:
2 Bars of soap (Bath size or larger) - November
1 med toothpaste (4.0 to 6.4 oz.) - December
3 toothbrushes - January
1 box Band-Aids (30 or more) - February
1 fingernail clipper - March
1 sturdy hair comb - April
2 hand towels - May
4 pks pocket-sized packages of facial tissues - June
1 Beanie-Baby-sized stuff toy - July
Our church also sponsors two children through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. This worthwhile cause is a simple way you can help bring the word of God to someone who desperately needs it.
